LaempeReich Corporation continues to extend the value of using Arena-flow to our prospects and customers every day, in addition to its use on projects in our own core production facility. The ability to simulate and visualize the core shooting and curing results quickly translates to more synchronous start-ups of new jobs and the ability to maximize the utilization of core production capacity. Additionally, we frequently use Arena-flow to reverse engineer existing defects in troublesome jobs, evaluating the root cause of these, and quickly providing the solutions to these through the use of this powerful tool.

Catalytic pyrolysis of plastics is a rare example of heterogeneously catalyzed gas-solid reactions, and having the most effective simulation tools is critical to enable the development and optimization of our breakthrough Plas-TCat technology. Effective reactor design requires an understanding of the hydrodynamic and mixing parameters of the system as well as their effect upon the catalytic reactions. CPFD’s Virtual Reactor™ software supports Anellotech’s philosophy of model-based development, which reduces development time and scale-up risk.

Scaling up processes using the similitude principle demands meticulous adjustment of design parameters across different scales to ensure consistency. Leveraging Barracuda Virtual Reactor, we’ve successfully simulated and fine-tuned larger reactor sizes for SE-SR of methane, effectively applying the similitude principle and bypassing the need for extensive physical experimentation and adjustment of reactor dimensions. The tremendous support from the CPFD support team has played a pivotal role in conducting our research. Their prompt responsiveness and adept problem-solving, irrespective of location and time differences, have been exceptional, ensuring that our research progresses smoothly.

I’ve come to value the efficiency and agility of Barracuda Virtual Reactor in simulating reactive fluidised bed reactors, particularly those with large concentration of solid particles and substantial dimensions. The software’s parallel GPU capability seamlessly integrates with our university’s High-Performance Computing (HPC) network, significantly accelerating simulation times. Furthermore, its real-time result visualisation enabled us to monitor simulations as they run and troubleshoot any issues, without impacting performance.

What I like most about the [CPFD] study is that it’s not only a study. It was built and realized by the 3rd party. We saw all process issues eliminated. This plant has been running with the redesigned calciner for about 2 years. We could increase the capacity with 100% secondary fuel rates and meet CO emissions requirements. All the engineering was done upfront with no trial and error, and no extended downtime. It’s quite obvious that CFD avoided the trial and error in the field due to virtual testing.
