Arena-flow, by CPFD, simulates the blowing/shooting and curing of sand cores and molds. Arena-flow is trusted by OEMs, foundries, equipment manufacturers, and core/pattern shops to complement metal flow and solidification software, resulting in optimized processes and cores that are right the first time!
Using Arena-flow our clients:
Arena-flow was designed from the ground up to capture discrete sand filling physics to accurately simulate core blowing/shooting and curing behavior which is difficult (or impossible) to predict using adaptations to metal flow and solidification software. It is best suited for high-complexity, high-volume cores made via the following processes:
Process Modeling: Sand Core Blowing*, a publication presenting Arena-flow’s early capabilities, won the 2003 AFS Howard F Taylor Award from the American Foundry Society in recognition of the paper having the greatest long-range technical significance in the field of cast metals technology. Over two decades later the impact of Arena-flow is still going strong!

CPFD Software is pleased to announce the renewal of its software licensing agreement with Aurrenak & Loramendi Group, reaffirming their continued use of the Arena-Flow simulation software.
Arena-flow is used to simulate the filling of an automotive cylinder head water jacket core through an integrated core print.
Arena-flow, by CPFD, models the air-driven sand flow critical to the creation of consistent, high-quality sand cores and molds for many processes including cold-box, shell, inorganics, greensand, hot-box, and warm-box. This video illustrates how air flow drags sand into the cavity.
This video shows how a mixture of gas and air progresses inside a core box, as the sand has contact with gas, air, cured sand, in this instance cured sand is shown as transparent dark grey.
This video demonstrates Arena-flow’s inorganic curing capabilities for dehydrative systems.
This video demonstrates the air-sand motion computed by Arena-flow for a magazine used to fill multiple sand cores. As the magazine pressurizes, the air drags sand into the core.
This video shows the cope and drag views of a thin-walled jacket core made using the shell sand / warm box module of Arena-flow.
Arena-flow by CPFD Software simulates the blowing of industrial sand cores, and this video highlights a cold box core scenario of a cylinder head water jacket.
CPFD Software is pleased to announce that we are now the global provider of the Arena-flow Sand Core Engineering CAE software product, including responsibility for software development, licensing, support, training and services.
This video demonstrates the validation of Arena-flow’s cold box curing model using transparent tooling.
This paper presents validation and application of Arena-flow for sand core blowing and curing processes.
