The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has announced finalist projects in the running for the 2022 Global Awards, with entries demonstrating excellence in chemical, biochemical and process engineering.
CPFD Software’s joint entry with Encina Development Group, entitled “Converting Plastic Waste into Circular Chemicals” is a finalist for the 2022 Process Automation and Digitalisation Award as well as the 2022 Sustainability Award.
The Encina Development Group has developed and is commercializing the novel Plastic Fluid Catalytic Cracking (PFCC) process to convert mixed, hard-to-recycle plastics into circular chemicals, reducing the need for fossil materials and significantly reducing plastic waste. CPFD Software’s Barracuda Virtual Reactor digital simulation technology was integrated throughout Encina’s R&D process, reducing risk and accelerating time to commercialization. Virtual Reactor enhancements enabled this world-first use for advanced recycling simulation including the largest simulation ever documented, and is affecting similar gains for other sustainability applications today.
“Being nominated for the sustainability award is significant in recognizing our commitment to sustainability and the value Encina creates for our business, customers, and communities,” said Carlo Badiola, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Technology at Encina Development Group. “It’s been a delightful collaboration working with the CPFD software team over the years. Their Virtual Reactor technology and expertise in fluidized beds are essential tools that enable us to meet Encina’s technology objectives.”
A list of all awards and finalists can be found on IChemE’s website. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in Manchester, UK, on November 17, 2022. For more information, or to register, please visit IChemE’s 2022 Global Awards page.
