Presented by John Gabites Process Control & Optimisation Engineer Viva Energy Geelong Refinery |
Join us for a CPFD Software webinar where John Gabites, Process Control & Optimisation Engineer, Viva Energy Refining Pty Ltd, will share his talk originally co-presented with Peter Blaser, CPFD, LLC, at the April, 2018 Asia Refining Technology Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Viva Energy Geelong Refinery is one four refineries remaining in Australia, supplying over 50% of Victoria’s and 10% of Australia’s fuel. In 2011, the Geelong Refinery updated the design of the Spent Catalyst Inlet Device (SCID) used in their RCCU regenerator. Afterburn soon led to constant panel operator intervention and ultimately reduced throughput. Panel operators ran with an increased margin to the flue gas temperature constraint and were forced to reduce rates below plan for various feedstocks.
Learn how Barracuda Virtual Reactor® simulation was used to pursue more efficient operation while minimizing the risk of potential, unforeseen, negative implications of changes at the Geelong Refinery. Simulations of the historical operation verified the model’s ability to predict the less robust operation observed from 2011-2016, while the pre-turnaround modelling of a post 2016 design verified that planned changes would address the refiner’s primary concern. Success was confirmed via 12 months of post-turnaround operational data. Guidelines for the application of simulation for troubleshooting FCC unit operation and pre-emptively supporting hardware changes are presented.
