John Gabites, Process Control & Optimisation Engineer, Viva Energy Refining Pty Ltd, shares his talk originally co-presented at the April, 2018 Asia Refining Technology Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Viva Energy Geelong Refinery is one four refineries remaining in Australia, supplying over 50% of Victoria’s and 10% of Australia’s fuel. In 2011, the Geelong Refinery updated the design of the Spent Catalyst Inlet Device (SCID) used in their RCCU regenerator. Afterburn soon led to constant panel operator intervention and ultimately reduced throughput. Panel operators ran with an increased margin to the flue gas temperature constraint and were forced to reduce rates below plan for various feedstocks.
Learn how Barracuda Virtual Reactor® simulation was used to pursue more efficient operation while minimizing the risk of potential, unforeseen, negative implications of changes at the Geelong Refinery.
