The article entitled “Viva Energy’s Geelong refinery reduces FCCU turnaround risk” is a case study on the application of Barracuda Virtual Reactor® at one of the largest refineries in Australia. Simulations by Barracuda Virtual Reactor were used to determine the root cause of dynamic flue gas line temperature spikes which were reducing throughput for certain feeds. Peter Blaser and John Pendergrass from CPFD Software are co-authors with John Gabites and Angus Brooke from Viva Energy Australia on the article published in the September 2018 issue of Hydrocarbon Processing. Click here to download the article to learn how simulation was used to minimize turnaround risk through virtual testing of intended hardware changes, and how the challenge of afterburn was addressed at the Geelong refinery.
