About This Video
This video shows Barracuda Virtual Reactor simulation results for the transient, multiphase, gas-particle dynamics inside a vortexing circulating fluidized bed (VCFB) as presented by Justin Weber from the National Energy Technology Laboratory during the 2019 Barracuda Virtual Reactor Users’ Conference. The model was first calibrated using an experimental cold-flow unit and then used to explore the design of the VCFB. The solids and gas recycle was identified as a critical design consideration. The experimental unit has had problems with the horizontals accumulating solids and clogging. Using the tuned Barracuda model, two other recycle designs were investigated including a 45 degree angled return plus the addition of gas injection into the bottom corner. The models predicted that the combination of features would avoid solids accumulation and clogging in the recycle.
