CPFD Software is proud to announce that it has entered into a software licensing agreement with ZEG Power (ZEG). ZEG is developing a novel technology to convert natural gas or biogas into low-carbon hydrogen with integrated CO2 capture.
Through partnership with CPFD Software, ZEG Power is set to integrate the Barracuda Virtual Reactor software into their ZEG ICC technology development workflow to visualize and support the verification process of their physical experiments. This advanced simulation tool will enable ZEG Power to model complex fluid-particle interactions, heat transfer, and chemical reactions within the Sorption Enhanced Reforming (SER) hydrogen production process.
By providing detailed insights into reactor performance and optimization opportunities, the software will play a crucial role in efficiently scaling up ZEG Power’s next generation hydrogen plants. Additionally, the Barracuda Virtual Reactor software will contribute to de-risking the technology development by identifying potential improvement areas early in the design process, allowing for early-stage adjustments and quality assurance while reducing development time and costs.

“ZEG’s mission is to provide a pathway for natural gas in a net-zero future,” said Kathrine Ryengen, CEO of ZEG Power. “The world needs energy in an affordable, reliable and sustainable manner, and ZEG provides a solution by offering cost-efficient low-carbon hydrogen. In addition, ZEG can provide CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removals), using biogas as feedstock instead of natural gas”
“At CPFD Software, we are excited to support ZEG Power in advancing their Sorption Enhanced Reforming hydrogen production technology,” said Peter Blaser, VP of Operations at CPFD Software. “Hydrogen production with integrated CO₂ capture presents unique engineering challenges, and Barracuda Virtual Reactor provides the detailed insight necessary to optimize reactor performance and scale up with confidence. We look forward to seeing how ZEG Power’s innovations contribute to the global energy solution.
About Zeg Power
ZEG Power AS (ZEG) is a Norwegian deep-tech company specializing in low-carbon hydrogen production with integrated CO2 capture. ZEG addresses the energy trilemma by providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable hydrogen. Based on over 20 years of research and development, ZEG has developed the innovative ZEG ICC™ technology, which enables compact and cost-efficient hydrogen production from natural gas with integrated CO₂ capture. The technology can also be used with biogas to enable CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removals).
About CPFD Software
CPFD Software is advancing multiphase simulation and technology. Our flagship product, Barracuda Virtual Reactor®, is a physics-based engineering software package that simulates the three-dimensional, transient, fluid-particle hydrodynamics, heat balance, and chemical reactions in industrial fluidized bed reactors and other fluid-particle systems.
Virtual Reactor™ enables researchers and engineers working with fluid/particle processes to explore abroad range of ideas, reduce physical testing costs, and minimize development risk, all while accelerating commercialization, scale-up, and overall time to market. For clients who already operate industrial units, Virtual Reactor allows engineers to determine the root cause of under performance, reduce the risk of changes through virtual testing, and optimize solutions, all while maximizing reliability, uptime, and regulatory compliance initiatives.
The Virtual Reactor technology can be accessed via software licensing, services, or custom collaborative arrangements.
