Abstract: Numerical simulation was conducted on a coal calciner in the suspension system for kaolin calcining by using CPFD method. The simulation considered heat and mass transfer, as well as chemical reaction in the calciner. The track and temperature of particle and fluid were obtained. The results showed that significant spouting effect formed at the neck of the calciner after the fluids entering in calciner from bottom were accelerated. As a result, raw material and coal particles were instantly dispersed with suspension state. The coal particles in the calciner showed complete combustion, and kaolin in the calciner was almost completely decomposed. This indicates that the design of the calciner for kaolin calcining is feasible.
