Hydrocarbon Processing, the downstream sector’s leading technical publication, has announced the finalists for its sixth annual awards ceremony. This year, the awards cover 16 key categories in the hydrocarbon processing industry that will be voted on by the HP Awards’ esteemed advisory board.
CPFD Software’s joint entry with Encina Development Group, entitled “Plastic Fluid Catalytic Cracking (PFCC) Accelerated by Virtual Reactor Simulation” is a finalist for the 2022 Sustainability Award.
The Encina Development Group has developed and is commercializing the novel Plastic Fluid Catalytic Cracking (PFCC) process to convert mixed, hard-to-recycle plastics into circular chemicals, reducing the need for fossil materials and significantly reducing plastic waste. CPFD Software’s Barracuda Virtual Reactor digital simulation technology was integrated throughout Encina’s R&D process, reducing risk and accelerating time to commercialization. Virtual Reactor enhancements enabled this world-first use for advanced recycling simulation including the largest simulation ever documented, and is affecting similar gains for other sustainability applications today.
“We are honored to receive this recognition for a second consecutive year and are thrilled to do so with the talented team at the Encina Development Group,” said Peter Blaser, Vice President of CPFD Software. “Encina is changing the plastic waste landscape with an innovative solution with Virtual Reactor simulation playing a key role in their R&D and commercialization approach.”
“Being nominated for the sustainability award is significant in recognizing our commitment to sustainability and the value Encina creates for our business, customers, and communities,” said Carlo Badiola, Senior Vice President of Engineering & Technology at Encina Development Group. “It’s been a delightful collaboration working with the CPFD software team over the years. Their Virtual Reactor technology and expertise in fluidized beds are essential tools that enable us to meet Encina’s technology objectives.”
CPFD Software would also like to congratulate the other Sustainability Award finalists for their contributions to sustainability in hydrocarbon processing operations and the broader chemical processing industries. These include:
- Reliance
- Aspen Technology
- Entropy Inc.
- Honeywell
- KNPC
- McDermott
- Saudi Aramco
