Dale Snider had a tremendous impact on the development of particle-fluid modeling methods. His papers have been used in the development of multiple software packages and countless academic research codes. PhD’s have been granted for efforts to adapt, refine, or utilize the methods he laid out in his papers. Even the largest exa-scale particle simulations today begin computation using the numerical methods developed by Dale Snider.
It’s tough to say what the state of particle-fluid dynamics modeling would be like today without his contributions. Certainly, others would have developed code in this area but that code would certainly not have been developed in the exact same way. In this sense, Dale Snider set both a framework and a path of future development – a path that many of us are still on today.
