CPFD Software has become an Industrial partner of CUWP Chemical Upcycling of Waste Plastics. CUWP is a 10 million dollar multi-university center funded by the Department of Energy. CUWP consists of six universities, over ten industrial partners, one national laboratory, and one industry association.
The mission of CUWP is to provide technical, environmental and economic information on chemical recycling of plastic wastes. This information will be shared with scientists, engineers, policy makers, business leaders, and the general public to help them make informed decisions about the costs and benefits of new technologies for plastics recycling.

About CUWP
CUWP, Chemical Upcycling of Waste Plastics is a 10MM multi-university center funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office, part of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The center is under the direction of Richard L. Antoine Professor George Huber in the University of Wisconsin – Madison Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. CUWP is focusing on two approaches to recycling plastic waste. In thermal depolymerization, the plastic is broken down into a liquid oil which can then be catalyzed to separate out plastic monomers, the main components in new virgin plastic. The second focus is solvent-targeted recovery and precipitation (STRAP) processing, a technique that can be used to process and recycle layered plastic films. CUWP will also research new waste collection and sorting techniques and will develop new graduate and undergraduate curricula on plastic recycling.
