CPFD Software has awarded four students a travel grant award supporting their attendance to the 2019 AIChE Annual Meeting and to the Particle Technology Forum (PTF) Awards Dinner. This year’s recipients are Gunda Harini, Georgios Kelesidis, Koyel Sen, and Kai Zheng. We are looking forward to each of the recipient’s presentations at this year’s event.
Gunda Harini is a doctoral student in Chemical Engineering, works in Boron Rich Nanostructures (BoRN) research group under the supervision of Dr. Kabeer Jasuja at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), India. She received her B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from R.V.R & J.C. College of Engineering, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh (India) in 2013 and her M.Tech in Chemical Engineering from IITGN in 2015. Her research focuses on boron based two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials analogous to graphene. She has discovered a simple recipe to obtain a high yield of boron based nanosheets from a new class of layered materials – metal borides. Currently, she is working on tuning the performance of energetic materials using boron based nano additives in hopes of utilizing these nanomaterials as a solid-state hydrogen storage material for next-generation energy storage applications.
Gunda will be presenting High-Yield Production of Boron-Based Nanosheets from Magnesium Diboride By Dissolution and Recrystallization in Water Monday, November 11 from 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM in Regency Ballroom R/S and Boron-Based Analogs of Graphene Exfoliated from Layered Metal Diborides As Catalytic Additives to Improve the Performance of Energetic Materials Wednesday, November 13 from 9:00 AM to 9:12 AM in Bayhill 20.
Georgios Kelesidis is a PhD candidate at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering of ETH Zurich, Switzerland. His research focuses on discrete element modeling of carbonaceous nanoparticle dynamics in combustion processes or in the atmosphere as global warming pollutants. The simulated carbon black morphology assisted the derivation of accurate soot and carbon black oxidation rates that are essential for the design of efficient and clean combustion processes, as well as novel carbon black grades.
Georgios will be presenting Oxidation of Carbon Black Agglomerates Tuesday, November 12 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM in Regency Ballroom R/S and Internal and External Soot Oxidation Wednesday, November 13 from 4:45 PM to 6:00 PM in Silver Spring I/II.
Koyel Sen is a doctoral graduate student at University of Connecticut. Her work focuses mainly on the 3D printing, powder flow characteristics and its effect in 3D printing. Sen received her Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Engineering in 2012 from Jadavpur University in India. She started her doctoral study in Dr. Chaudhuri’s Lab in 2015 where she specializes in computational simulation (Discrete Element Modeling), 3D Printing, and solid dosage formulation (Tablets, Particle Technology).
Koyel will be presenting Comparative Study of Mixing in a High Shear and Low Shear Blender Using Numerical Simulation Tuesday, November 12 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM in Regency Ballroom R/S and Pharmaceutical Application of Inkjet Based 3D Printing Process Wednesday, November 13 from 2:02 PM to 2:21 PM in Bayhill 28.
Kai Zheng is a fourth year PhD candidate working under the guidance of Dr. Rajesh Dave at the New Jersey Institute of Technology where he conducts research related to surface modification of active pharmaceutical powder. He focuses on solvent-less coating technology, and his thesis deals with the high-intensity processing for engineered particles. In addition, he uses DEM method to simulate the dynamics of the particles during high intensity processing.
Kai will be presenting Enhanced Dissolution Performance of Amorphous Solid Dispersions By Size Reduction Tuesday, November 12, from 12:30 PM – 12:51 PM in Celebration 7 .
