SUMMARY:Numerical Simulation of Polysilicon Deposition Fluidized Bed Based on Barracuda Software (China) - March 18\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:This event is hosted by Beijing Hikey Technology Co. Ltd. and will be presented in Chinese. \nRelevant industry background introduction: \nPolysilicon is the direct raw material for the production of monocrystalline silicon\, and is the basic electronic information material for semiconductor devices such as contemporary artificial intelligence\, automatic control\, information processing\, and photoelectric conversion. Internationally\, crystalline silicon materials (including polycrystalline silicon and monocrystalline silicon) are the most important photovoltaic materials\, with a market share of more than 90%\, and will still be the mainstream material for solar cells for a long period of time in the future. In China\, with the support of the central government’s vigorous promotion of new energy policies\, various regions have gradually established a complete industrial chain from silicon materials\, silicon wafers to solar cell modules and supporting products\, and the domestic development trend is good. \nDescription of the combination of software and industry applications: \nBarracuda software based on CPFD (Computational Particle Fluid Dynamics) method is a commercial software package dedicated to industrial particle fluidization and chemical reaction simulation. Its advantages include fast simulation modeling method\, efficient and stable multiphase flow coupling solution It has been widely used to study chemical reaction processes in fluidized beds. The use of Barracuda can realistically and reliably simulate the complex gas-solid flow process and heat and mass transfer process in the industrial-scale polysilicon deposition fluidized bed reactor. The simulation results can be used to guide the production process and structure optimization of the polysilicon deposition fluidized bed. \nCourse content: \n1. Polysilicon preparation industry background \n2. Introduction to CPFD method \n3. Advantages of CPFD Method \n4. Application case of polysilicon deposition fluidized bed

SUMMARY:PSRI - Measuring Fluidized Beds and CFBs - March 16\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Much of what we do at PSRI involves getting quantifiable hydrodynamics from fluidized beds and circulating fluidized beds. We do this with over a dozen PSRI tools that provide the data needed for scaling up efforts and process optimization. So how do we do this? How do we measure bubble hydrodynamic properties in a bubbling and turbulent fluidized bed? How do we measure the TDH and the entrainment rate? How do we quantify gas and solid mixing in fluidized beds? How is the cyclone grade efficiency measured? How do we get the radial solids concentration and flux profile in a riser? These are just a few questions that address what PSRI does\, developing quantifiable techniques to see what is happening in industrially relevant fluidized beds\, slurry beds\, ebullated beds\,  circulating fluidized beds\, etc. This webinar will discuss the techniques in our arsenal and where we need to go to answer tomorrow’s challenges. \nThis Members Only webinar will be presented on Wednesday\, March 16th 2022 at 8:00 AM Central Standard (Chicago) time. \nA recording of the webinar will be available 24 hours after the live event has finished. \nPlease make sure you have the latest ZOOM client installed on your device from https://zoom.us/download.

SUMMARY:PSRI - Meet the Consultants Webinar: Dr. Jia Wei Chew February 15\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Chew has over 8 years of experience in particle technology\, membrane-based separations\, and machine learning and has over 200 publications. \nDr. Chew brings PSRI world-class technical expertise and skills in: \n\nMechanistic understanding of membrane fouling and mitigation\n\nBecause membrane fouling remains the Achilles’ heel of membrane-based filtration\, studies related to improving understandings of the fouling behavior and correspondingly advancing means of fouling mitigation are widespread. This presentation overviews some research efforts on enhancing mechanistic understandings on the deposition and mitigation of particulate foulants in microfiltration processes.\n\n\nApplication of Machine Leaning Tools to Understand Fluidization Phenomena\n\nAs big-data tools become increasingly popular\, the employment of machine learning tools to advance the understanding of various fluidization phenomena was explored. The key goal was to provide mechanistic insights on various fluidization phenomena\, as well as assess the predictive capability of such trained models that do not require any mechanistic understanding. Snippets of notable findings will be shared.\n\n\n\nThis Webinar will start at 9 AM Central Time and be presented via ZOOM. Please make sure you have the ZOOM client already installed on your device. You can install ZOOM from https://zoom.us/download.  Registration is required. If you are unable to attend the live webinar\, a recording will be available on PSRI.org 24 hours after the completion of the live event.
