SUMMARY:NETL Multiphase Flow Science Workshop: Virtual - August 1-3\, 2023
DESCRIPTION: \n \n\nCPFD Software’s CTO James Parker will be presenting on “Revisiting Wen and Yu: An empirical drag model based on the foundational data sets of fluidizations” \nYou are cordially invited to participate in the U.S. Department of Energy\, National Energy Technology Laboratory’s (NETL) 2023 Virtual Workshop on Multiphase Flow Science. This year’s workshop will take place as an on-line\, virtual meeting\, at no cost Tuesday\, August 1 and Wednesday\, August 2\, 2023. \nThis event brings together international leaders from industry\, academia and government laboratories working in multiphase flow sciences to discuss current research projects and future research and development needs. For these meetings\, multiphase flow science refers to gas-solid\, liquid-solid\, gas-liquid\, and gas-solid-liquid multiphase flows. Industrial presenters are encouraged to attend and to share their experiences and specific applications to help researchers better understand industry needs and priorities. Please reference https://mfix.netl.doe.gov/workshops/ for proceedings from past workshops. \nThe conference will cover topics in:• Fundamental research in multiphase flows• Advancements in CFD model development for multiphase flows• Application of multiphase CFD to industrial systems such as carbon capture\, renewableenergy\, gasification\, combustion\, chemical and biological processes\, etc.• Novel measurement and experimental techniques in multiphase flows• Application of uncertainty quantification techniques in multiphase flow simulation• Optimization and reduced order modeling of multiphase systems• Machine Learning techniques for application to the study of multiphase flows

SUMMARY:PSRI - Tracer Webinar\, August 15\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:Tracer techniques to Characterize the Gas and Solids Mixing in Fluidized Beds\, a members only webinar. \nThis webinar focuses on the work PSRI has done to quantify the behavior of gases and solids in fluidized bed systems. To track the path of gas\, PSRI uses helium injections at points of interest and uses thermal conductivity detectors to read the concentration of helium at the desired probe locations. For solids\, small amount of the same bed material dyed with fluorescent dye and injected into the system. The illuminating fiber shines UV light on the material and\, if the presence of dyed particles in the measuring volume\, will then emit a light of certain wavelength back to the receiving fiber\, which is received by a photodiode. Both the gas and solid tracers are introduced into the system in small concentrations relative to the system inventory. Currently in the Gas-Solid Contact program\, PSRI is investigating the use of an adsorbing tracer\, carbon dioxide\, and comparing it to the helium tracer\, which is non-adsorbing. The goal of the program is to quantify how efficiently the adsorbing tracer is contacting (adsorbing) to the catalyst\, as well as how the bed behavior affects this contacting.

SUMMARY:ATC Japan 2023 - August 24-25\, 2023
DESCRIPTION:  \nCPFD Software is proud to be a member of the Altair Partner Alliance. Terrabyte\, the Japanese distributor for Barracuda Virtual Reactor\, will be attending the conference. \nATC (Altair Technology Conference) is a technology event where customers from across industries gather to discuss the future of computational science and decision-making through presentations of the latest software technologies in simulation\, HPC and AI. \nThe benefits of digitization are immeasurable. At this year’s ATC\, representatives from Japan’s leading DX companies will be on stage to talk about DX case studies across organizations and society as a whole. Let’s overcome various frictions and practice the transformation brought about by data and AI together. \nFor over 20 years\, ATC’s most popular program has been product user presentations. This year\, customers from various industries will present valuable introduction examples. At the venue\, there are many company exhibitions and an AI contest is being planned. Over two days\, ATC is a great opportunity to catch up on industry trends\, share knowledge and network. We look forward to your participation. \nLearn more here.
