NEW Barracuda Virtual Reactor®: Powerful CAE Software to Save Millions of Dollars in High-Risk Fluidized Reactor Operations

Download the Press Release

The NEW Capabilities of Barracuda VR include:

  • Modeling fluidized particulate systems with homogeneous or heterogeneous chemical reactions (including catalysts or particles containing volatiles)
  • Effects of particle-‐to-‐particle collisions
  • Dense-‐phase particulate-‐solids heat transfer

At last, engineers can rapidly and accurately get answers to:

  • What is really going on in my chemical reactor and how much product will it make at these process conditions?
  • How can the unit's yield and reliability be increased?
  • How can it meet new environmental requirements?

According to Dr. Ken Williams, CPFD co-founder - "Oil refineries can potentially save well in excess of $50 million per unit by avoiding capital equipment purchases through optimization of their FCC regenerator to comply with EPA MACT requirements." "Barracuda VR quite simply enables informed decision making for reactor scale-‐up and modification of process conditions."

Ray Fletcher of Intercat Inc.,(Subsidiary of Johnson Matthey and Barracuda user) states "We are especially excited about the new particle‐level chemistry capabilities in Barracuda VR(R) said "For the first time, this will enable modeling of the coke burn-off chemistry in fluidized catalytic cracking reactors and detailed simulations. This shows spent catalyst reacting as it does in an actual unit. These new capabilities in Barracuda VR(R) greatly support our initiatives to cost effectively meet new EPA emissions requirements while concurrently improving our profitability and competitiveness."

Barracuda VR(R) was designed with input from our global client base and the US DOE's National Energy Technology Laboratory. The graphical user interface provides user‐customizable features with a logical workflow for project setups, as well as easier mesh generation. The CAE software package is offered for both Linux and Windows operating systems.

Interest is increasing as operational efficiency, cost effectiveness, new energy sources, sustainability and environmental stewardship become important sources of competitive differentiation.

About CPFD Software

Founded in 2006 by two world renowned pioneers in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) predictive modeling, CPFD Software is privately held, headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico USA and is leader in computer aided engineering (CAE) software. Their software is used by the global process-industry (oil and gas refining, chemicals and petrochemicals, renewable energy production, and polysilicon and pharmaceuticals manufacturing) whose growth and profitability are highly dependent on fluidized bed reactors (FBRs) and other fluidized systems. CPFD's Barracuda software is easy-to-implement for product development and manufacturing and provides a compelling ROI.
